Unit 4 Reading



Homepage in a website is considered as a waterfront when you entering a beautiful house. It’s really important for a website. If don’t have it, people don’t know where they want to go next, or what this site is about, or searching what they want to find. Therefore, a well worked homepage have to have these basic elements: site identity, mission, search, teasing, updated content, deals, shortcuts, and registration. With these elements, the homepage will appeal its content in hierarchy to the viewers to visits the homepage and the lower-level pages. There are must-have element in a homepage is a prominent, clear, informative tagline which following its logo, welcome blurb describes the mission statement, the smart subsection navigation. A tagline could not be used for the well-known companies like ebay, amazon, cnn because most of people knew what its mission is. Besides, homepage need to be unique so that the user will not get confuse when they go to other lower-level pages. For example, if your site homepage navigation is horizontal, so the lower-level page navigation needs to be consistent exactly in the place, orientation, colors, and functions. Therefore, viewers will easily use the navigation without thinking that they are really in the same site or a pop-up site.
